Paper Packaging You’re Sure to Love!

Paper Packaging

Plastic. One of the main conversation topics widely spread across the world. With the acknowledgement of the damage that plastic is causing, companies have started to focus on making their products more sustainable. But how many have implemented their idea for the public to try? Well, the list isn’t long.

One company taking this by storm is Nestle. They have recently launched a snack bar wrapper made from 100% recyclable paper. The ‘Yes!’ bar was released in early 2018 and was wrapped in a plastic cover. However, with many critics from the environmental group Greenpeace, they soon made the change to a paper cover making Nestle one of the only brands to have released 100% recyclable packaging in the confectionery industry. The food giant says it’s hoping to extend their

new packaging onto all of their products and by 2025 in the hopes of becoming a completely sustainable brand. Now that’s something to talk about!

More countries in Europe are soon to follow but with environmental concerns rising, customers’ decisions are becoming influenced by the sustainability and environmental impacts of the product. This is forcing companies to re-think the way they wrap and produce their products to continue growing in the manufacturing industry.

The movement, which is an industry first, has unlocked the potential for recyclable paper packaging to be widely used in the manufacturing industry. With the billions of confectionary items bought per day worldwide, this could be the breakthrough we need to regain the eco-friendly earth we once had.

Although some companies have already made noticeable strides towards their sustainability goals, there is still a lot more that companies can do.

Some major companies, such as McDonald’s, have integrated paper packaging into most of their stores. A big conversation topic at the minute is their new paper straws. With a petition online to return to the plastic straws, consumers are clearly not happy with the switch. Others have defended McDonald’s. Providing 1.8million paper straws per day in the UK alone will make a huge impact on our environment. And with more companies jumping on board the paper straw bandwagon, the UK will complete a paper-straw roll out by the end of this year!

So, with all that said, do you feel that brands are doing enough to prevent the production of plastic in packaging and manufacturing. Nestle seems to be heading in the right direction but can other confectionary brands keep up?
