What do recruiters do?
Being a recruitment consultant is a role with many duties. You work as a problem solver, marketer, networker, interviewer, and, most importantly, an effective negotiator as you harmoniously match the job seeker and employer. Sometimes, you need to think outside the box to find where the perfect candidate may be hiding and once found, it’s your job to get them engaged and assess whether they’re suitable for the role. Next, you arrange initial introductions and interviews if they match the client’s requirements. Finally, you communicate with both client and candidate, negotiating and advising on the most suitable salary, training, benefits and other practicalities.
Recruitment is a people business, and the best recruiters aim to build relationships with professionals in the market continuously.
Now let’s take a look at some of the perks and rewards of being a hardworking recruitment consultant.
Job satisfaction and fulfilment
You might be surprised to know that the most fulfilling part of the job is not always the money for our consultants (although it’s not far off). Instead, it’s seeing the positive impact you’re making on the people and companies you are helping. So it’s not just about trying to place anyone into any role but about uncovering the right people to make the perfect match. You are responsible for helping people find the right job, which, when done right, could be a life-changing opportunity for them.
As a recruitment consultant, you find people a more satisfactory job, a higher salary, a better location – and with that comes the emotional motivation.
It’s very satisfying because of the substantial impact on everyone we work with. Not only are you rewarded but so is the person you placed and the team you have just strengthened with new talent.
This is a gratifying experience. People rely on recruiters to find their dream jobs or help clients hire the perfect employees to grow their businesses. But, for our consultants, placing someone in a position today still exhilarates them as it did when they first began.
The package
The basic salary will vary from business to business, as in every industry. For example, in Manchester, the average salary for a Graduate Recruitment Consultant ranges from £18K to £24K, with the average sitting at £20K. Here at V7, we offer a basic of £22K to £24K for our entry-level roles.
Performance-related bonuses (commission) are also paid on top of your basic, making it possible for recruiters to be very well compensated. Your rewards will increase the more successful you are at delivering the recruitment solutions and hitting your targets. The V7 commission structure has allowed some of our consultants to earn over £100,000 per year and even hit £20,000 in commission in one month alone!
Consultants are not only rewarded with additional income through bonuses, but many recruitment firms also provide excellent employee benefits, such as high achiever lunch clubs, health insurance, and gym memberships. Some (including us) also have reward schemes that enable the team to travel to destinations like Amsterdam, New York and Las Vegas!

The Working Culture
With the nature of the job, recruitment can be stressful. However, that stress can quickly disperse with the right team around you. In good recruitment companies, team members work together and support each other during the more challenging days. In addition, Staff incentive schemes and workplace perks enable recruitment agencies to balance the stressful nature of the job once again.
During the past few years, the industry has invested significant resources into initiatives to improve staff wellbeing and culture.
Before COVID-19, flexible working had already become more common. Still, the pandemic undoubtedly made this more prevalent. Here at V7, we have implemented a Work From Home scheme to improve work-life balance for all our team. However, nothing beats the buzz of the office on a busy day.
Teams typically enjoy nights out on behalf of the company and are provided with top performance coaches as a means of boosting morale and boosting their desire to succeed, all of which V7 delivers regularly.
Career development opportunities
Recruitment can provide rapid advancement to senior leadership roles for those that are ambitious and keen to climb the ladder. In our field, you are judged on performance – not by time served or waiting for the person above to leave or be promoted themselves.
Here at V7, we have a straightforward 7-step promotion gateway to becoming a director. Anyone with a strong work ethic and the motivation to succeed can achieve this.

Develop your career!
Good recruitment agencies will invest in their workforce as they should recognise that their employees are the future leaders of their business. You should receive training, coaching, and mentoring throughout your career to help you adjust to the industry and succeed.
At V7, you’ll do a lot of your learning from your colleagues at your desk and receive bespoke training from our trainer. This will help you grow and develop your skills not just when you’re starting but throughout your career. Hard work combined with these skills will put you on the fast track to success, recognition, and advancement.
If you want to be in charge of your future and be rewarded for all the hard work you put in whilst receiving high-level bespoke training and support, then a career at V7 could be for you.
